The Admissions Process
The Admissions process for The Hockessin Montessori School is intended to offer families specific information about our school, as well as general information regarding Montessori philosophy and pedagogy. It also allows the Admissions' department and faculty of our school to become familiar with your child.
The first step in our process is to arrange a tour of our school. If you have already toured The Hockessin Montessori School, and are ready to apply, please complete an application and submit it to the school office along with the $75.00 application fee. Upon receipt of your application and fee, we will schedule your child's interview.
Once the interview process is complete, and all forms and records have been received in the Admissions' Office, The Hockessin Montessori School Admissions' Committee will review the applicant's complete file. In evaluating each student, the Committee considers the sum of the applicant's aptitudes, achievements, interests, and personal qualities. The goal of the Admissions' Committee is to admit students who will be successful at The Hockessin Montessori School.
Interview and Visitation Process
All applicants four years of age through 8th grade are required to visit The Hockessin Montessori School for a specific period of time.
- 4-year-old and Kindergarten applicants are required to attend a 1/2 day visit
- First grade applicants are required to attend 1 full day visit
- Second grade through Eighth grade applicants are required to attend 2 full, consecutive day visits
During the visitation, the applicant will have the opportunity to interact with students and teachers within one of our classrooms. Throughout the visit, the classroom teacher will screen the applicant in regards to the child's physical, social and emotional development. Applicants who are applying to Kindergarten may meet with Admissions' Director to complete a Kindergarten readiness screening. Students applying for 1st through 8th grade may also meet with Admissions' Director for an academic screening.
