Students at The Hockessin Montessori School participate in Enrichment Programs that are developmentally appropriate for their age and ability. The following classes are offered to students at HMS. Toddler (12 - 35 months)
Children's House and Kindergarten (3 - 6 year olds)
Lower Elementary (1, 2, 3 grades)
Upper Elementary (4, 5, 6 grades)
Middle School Program (7, 8 grades) Lifetime Sports/Physical Education is offered two times a week for a five week cycle. Curriculum themes rotate during the year and focus on physical fitness, lifetime sports, team sports, and classic gym games. Health - The Health curriculum is considered part of the physical education program and comprises issues pertinent to adolescent development. Art - Art concepts include the selection and use of different media, techniques, and processes that are used to create works of art in addition to the focus on the elements or art and principles of design. Middle School students have art class two times a week throughout the year. Spanish - Middle School students receive Spanish class two times a week. Music - Middle School students learn how to play the Steel Drums and how to read sheet music. Music lessons are once a week for an hour, with additional practices three times a week. STEM Program - The students participate in the STEM program during their Immersion Week (one week per cycle). |
